With the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in full swing for those early access cardholders, I thought it would be a good time to post about hawking. I mean, I named my blog after this word, so it is only appropriate if I explain it in more detail. What is it? How do I do it?
What exactly is hawking?
I started using this word with my friends and family when I bought something that was sold out everywhere and I somehow managed to snag it (sometimes on super sale!). I would find something that I loved and was convinced that it was absolutely necessary to be in my closet with the rest of my clothing and would scour the internet to find it in my size. When I found that item, I would quickly snatch it up! When faced with the fact that it was just no longer available, I would opt for something similar. But let’s face it, there is no feeling quite like getting exactly what you are looking for.
How do you hawk?
Anyone can do it! There are a few tips and tricks that I follow to find those pieces that may be sold out. Like this Kimono on my post today…maybe give this tip a try and see if you can hawk it!
Here is how it works:
You find that item you have to have.
You Google the item and find all the sites it’s on (pulling up a separate tab for each page). Sorry to those of you who hate having more than one browser up, learn to love it.
If you don’t see the item and your size, don’t panic! Keep all the browsers up and refresh the page every few days, often times people will return the item and your size might reappear as “available”.
If it doesn’t seem to refresh and ever come back, check the “You might also like” section of the shopping page. I find a lot of similar amazing finds there and sometimes something new and unexpected.
Also, head into the store! I often find that when I physically go into the store, I will end up finding something completely different or similar that will take my mind off that item I wanted so badly.
And just remember that at the end of the day, there will always be the piece of clothing, shoes or accessory that you will want that got away and you will always have something else to satisfy that craving. There are so many great things in the fashion world right now, so regardless, you are sure to find something great!
